Theme of the Year 2019-2020

The academic year 2019-2020 was commenced on 1st June 2019 depicting the theme of the year “Called to be Witnesses of Prophetic Hope,” calling us forth for a radical life centered on Christ.

Symposium

The Institute also organized annual inter-disciplinary Symposium, “Rediscovering of the Missionary Spirit in the Light of Maximum Illud” and subsequent documents Ad Gentes, Evangelii Nuntianti, Redemptoris Missio and Evangelii Gaudium in Oct 2019.

Participation in National Seminars

  • Staff and Students participated in the Inter-religious Meet on the theme “Upholding Dignity, Strengthening Unity” hosted by Patriarchal Seminary of Rachol.
  • Sr Sayujya along with four students from BTh participated in International Inter-disciplinary Symposium “on Vatican Council II and Pope Francis” organized by JDV and Theological Seminar organized by St Pius X College, Goregaon.
  •  The entire Staff and Students took active part in the National seminar “Renewed Commitment to Missionary Calling in Context” organized by the All India Theological College at Pillar.

 Extension Lectures

  • Dr Ivon Almeida SFX, gave an Extension Lecture on “Mind-Meditation and Well-being. 
  • Dr Stephen Jayard spoke  on “Why do you not laugh when I crack a Joke?  Existential Reflections on Humor, Humanity and Health.
  • Fr Martin SJ and Fr Joseph Beck CSSR spoke on “Accompanying Distressed Migrant workers in India.”
  • Dr Cedric Prakash SJ enlightened the community on  “Preparedness & Response” to the issues of CAA and NRC. 
  • Dr Tony Menezes SVD presented a talk on “Stress Management.” 

Inter Religious Dialogue

  • Our Staff and students participated in the Annual Inter-Religious Dialogue organized in Basilica of Bom Jesus by the Archdiocesan Commission for interreligious and ecumenical dialogues. Our students presented a splendid and thought provoking dance drama on the theme “Upholding Dignity, strengthening Unity.” It was much appreciated by all.

Rally Against CAA/NRC/NPR

  • The Staff and Students also took active part in showing solidarity with the suffering humanity in two Rallies’ against CAA/NRC/NPR – Save Democracy – Save Constitution organized by Council for Social Justice and Peace with National Confederation of Human Rights Organizations (Goa Unit)

Lenten Walking Pilgrimage

  • The entire Mater Dei Community in solidarity with the faithful of the Arch-Diocese of Goa and Daman took part in the prayerful walking pilgrimage for Christ and with Christ culminating at Old Church Sancoale. Indeed it was a very unique experience for all of us.

Liturgical and Pastoral Programmes

  • The entire members of IMD community generously offered their valuable services at the Basilica of Bom Jesus during the days of Novena of St Francis Xavier. We were moved by the deep faith of the faithful.  

Christmas Celebration

  • Christmas is a season of giving and sharing Christ and as part of this sharing, Institute Mater Dei organized Christmas celebrations with the elderly in the Home for the Aged by Sisters of the Franciscan Hospitallers of the Immaculate Conception in Old Goa and with the differently abled children at St Xavier Academy, Old Goa. These were heart-touching experiences.
